This FDA-approved device gently heats and massages the inner and outer lid to effectively treat Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), a leading cause of Dry Eye Disease (DES).
LipiFlow® activators are single-use sterile devices that safely and comfortably massages the meibomian glands while protecting the delicate structures of your eye. When placed comfortably, the activator delivers a combination of heat and gentle pressure (Vectored Thermal Pulses) to the inner lids with a simultaneous therapeutic motion on the outer lid. This unique combination safely removes gland obstruction or old gland content. The entire treatment takes twelve (12) minutes and, as normal gland function recovers, maximum results are usually experienced 6 to 8 weeks after treatment.
When LipiFlow treatment is properly applied, the glands can resume normal oil production or what is known as lipids. This oil is essential for a healthy tear film and for protecting the tear layer or watery layer of your eyes. In a clinical study, 90% of patients received a meibomian gland secretion score at least three times great than before treatment. 80% of patients reported a mean improvement of 50% in symptoms one month following a single treatment including relief from the effects of Dry Eye Syndrome (DES).
